Applications are invited for a temporary 5-year appointment as Director of the Applied Language Centre (ALC). This is a significant leadership post and the person appointed will be responsible for leading the staff and activities of the ALC with a view to maximising its potential, in particular in the context of UCD's strategy on internationalisation. The successful candidate will have a significant track record of success in delivering high-quality second language teaching at all levels, including graduate level. The appointee will play a significant role in designing and delivering academic programmes in areas of applied linguistics (e.g. TESOL) including the supervision of graduate theses.
The Applied Language Centre (ALC) is a teaching, research and resource centre in the College of Arts & Celtic Studies. The ALC also has a university-wide remit to provide teaching, self-study, testing and advisory services across UCD and to the wider national and international community.
The ALC is actively involved in research and engaged in a wide number of independent language education projects and in partnership with international and international bodies. Current research projects are in a range of areas including language teacher education, the teaching of vocabulary, language testing, language policy and planning as well as many others.
Note: For appointment on Senior Lecturer scales, applicants must first meet UCD's Benchmarks for a promotion/appointment at this grade.
2010 Senior Lecturer Scale: €67,310 - €94,026 per annum
2011 Senior Lecturer Scale: €60,579 - 84,623 per annum*
Subject to all new entrants to public sector as of 01 January 2011
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
