Friendly workplace
Customer Service Assistant (Former Employee), Doncaster – April 25, 2013
Pros: nice work environment
Cons: struggle to further yourself sometimes
The staff and customers are friendly, I learned many useful skills in Customer Service here as well as how to diffuse volatile situations in a calm efficient manner.
The management was understanding and easy to talk to as were my co-workers, we were always up for a good time and a laugh making the experience of working there very enjoyable.

Horrible workplace, poor staff
Warehouse assistant (Former Employee), Burton – March 8, 2013
Pros: 5p coffee/tea
Cons: long hours, no tasks properly set, poor management, poor wage.
Worked there for about 6 months, the management was rubbish, tasks that were set weren't overlooked. People would do the jobs you had been asked to do or set to do for the day because they were poorly organised. You would get in trouble for not finishing a job because you was told to do another even though you would advise them you still had to finish. – more... Overall the company will go under in time. nothing learned co workers were fine... they even mentioned how poor things were ran. nothing really enjoyable apart from going home and the hardest part to understand was how you were meant to do you job properly as training or how they wanted the job done was not given. – less

Long periods of standing around when there were no customers.
Customer Assistant (Former Employee), Dartford – October 30, 2012
Pros: i lived locally so i was able to go home for lunch
Cons: long periods of standing around during the quiet periods.
A typical day was standing at the till dealing with mainly builders, seeing through large quantities of building materials.
I learned that you needed to keep a sense of humour whilst dealing with customers within the building trade and not to take their banter too seriously.
I was mainly left on my own on shop floor, so I did not really get much of – more... a chance to socialise with my co-workers too much, but when I did get a chance, they were all really friendly and helpful.
The hardest part of the job was being the only person on shop floor as the store would get busy really quickly and trying to deal with so many people all at once was sometimes stressful as builders especially need their materials for the job immediately.
The most enjoyable part of the job was probably the builders as they brought fun and a sense of humour with them and their banter made the job more enjoyable. – less

Fantastic Teamwork workplace
Cashier (Current Employee), Bournemouth – October 29, 2012
Pros: lovely people, comfortable workplace, free uniform and training.
Cons: long hours, some evenings can be dead which leads to boredom!
A normal day at work will be busy, we are all there for one another and work as a team to make the business day be successful. I learned so much working there such as how to give such fantastic customer care and we were given training in out induction about health and safety also which benefited me and i learnt from that. The management is Great! If – more... i had a problem, they solved it. If i couldnt come into wirk, They sorted it. Everyone who works there are all Great people, Friendly, Helpful and we all accept one another. The hardest part of my job is pressure, When ques get long, phone callse, customers wanting deliveries and there would be limited staff, However we work as a team, will not let it get to us and we will still give fab customer service!!! The best part of my job is meeting new people every other minute of the day, and thats what makes wickes such a great place to work!! – less

A quiet place to work
Kitchen and bathroom designer (Current Employee), Midlands – June 11, 2012
Pros: meeting people
Cons: not busy enough
My day starts at 9am and finishes at 6pm. My day is appointment based. So I work around whatever is in my diary. I either have home visits or instore appointments.

Ive learned how to design kitchen and bathrooms and my rapport building skills have improved.

I dont really see my manager that much. I have a monthly review.

The hardest part of the job – more... is trying to hit a target when ive got no customers and when the targets are too high for the current climate. Trying to stay busy when I have no business.

But I love talking to my customers and designing them their dream kitchen or bathroom. I love going round peoples houses and learning about my customer. I like it when customers bring me gifts for doing such a good job. – less

What happens on a daily basis.
Kitchen & Bathroom Sales Advisor (Current Employee), Lichfield – June 10, 2012
Pros: salary'd
Cons: not treated like a collegue, more like just a number.
A typical day at my current job is good however i believe in if i respect someone i should be respected back and unfortunately this is not the case. However morjority of the store collegues are brilliant to work with and we all make an excellent team.
The hardest part of the job is trying to get motivated when the showroom is very quiet so i tend to – more... maintain the cleanliness even though it was only done the day before.
The most enjoyable part of the day is when we have customers come on to the showroom and having a in depth conversation about our products and specifications. – less
