Productive and customer service oriented
TEAM MEMBER/BUYER FOR SPECIAL ORDERS (Former Employee), Jericho, NY – May 16, 2013
Pros: higher entrance pay than other retail stores
Cons: short breaks, no paid vacations
The company has strong and notable company values. I joined the company primarily because of their environmental values.
Everyday, team members work hard to set up the store before it opens and provide excellent customer service to all.
Management keeps employees educated about products and specifically on natural and organic products, on food handling – more... and sanitation. They also have an open door policy.
The work is hard and tedious as inall retail job that it is also not surprising that some team memebrs get sick with muscle psrains, or get hurt on the job.
The company also provides advancement options and have in place programs to help them advance within the company.
The most enjoyable part of the job is learning new things about the company and the food industryor about wellness programs. The company has computers available for team memebrs to learn on the Whole Foods Unversity. – less

Cool place to work with job security
Grocery Stocker (Current Employee), Raleigh, NC – May 16, 2013
Pros: benefits, customer satisfaction, schedule flexiablity, ability to a raise every 6 months, gainsharing every other check
Cons: rarely have full time positions avavailble
A typical day at Whole Foods Market might involve stocking groceries depending on the load of the truck from that morning.
Assisting customers in finding the correct products or a substitute product. Zoning shelves so everything looks full and stocked. The non enjoyable part about the shifts are at closing if you are working with slow team members and – more... it takes you longer to finish your task then what your scheduled for.. – less

can't wait to work for whole foods again
Meat Cutter, Supervisor (Former Employee), Charlotte, NC – May 13, 2013
Pros: 20% discount, shaving not required, great healthcare and loyalty bennefits
Cons: a little pricey and team leaders aren't always the most qualified
-hard work, depending on your sales always a steady pace
-there is so much to learn ie: different farms= different feed, breed of live stock, grass fed vs grain fed, local vs regional, bison vs beef, flavor vs nutritional value, ect..
-MOST management is fair and knowledgeable
-99% of teammates are great
-the hardest part is answering questions that come – more... out of thin air
-the best part is for the most part you are empowered to be yourself and perform at your peak – less

A welcoming work environment.
Grocery Team Member (Former Employee), Wilmington, NC – May 10, 2013
Pros: employee discount, excellent benefits for full time employees, good work environment
Cons: none for me
I was very impressed with the professionalism of the company from day one. would work for again in a heart beat. I got to work with some really quality people during my time there. I was separated due to the company attendance policy. It's pretty strict, but for good reason when many people tend to take advantage of leniency. I am eligible for rehire – more... in six months and looking forward to it.
If you are a serious team player, then whole foods is for you.
I took the employee bio metric screening and based on my healthy BMI, cholesterol, blood work results, and the fact that i dont smoke, I qualified for a 30% employee discount card! sweet! – less

Great Company
Team Leader (Current Employee), Willowbrook, IL – May 3, 2013
Pros: great work environment
Cons: retail.... but that's not their fault
This has to be ultimately the best company to work for in retail. Been there for over 9 years. Started their as a bagger and worked my way up to Team Leader position. Work hard and you will get rewarded at Whole Foods.

Looks good from the outside
Cashier/Cut fruit/floral specialist/retail bakery (Former Employee), Ontario – May 1, 2013
Pros: 3 paid days off
Cons: everything else
Poor management, whole foods must be your life if you work there. Employees are expected to do more and more work in less time with less help because all they care about is profits. The money is good, but say goodbye to any life you have outside of whole foods market. Don't expect to do anything you enjoy/are good at, they'll place you wherever they – more... want you (this is generally whichever department has the highest turnover). Also don't expect any training, whole foods works on a learn on your own as you go basis. Enjoy. – less

One of the best places to work
Cashier (Former Employee), Cary, NC – May 1, 2013
Pros: great discount and plenty opportunities to try new things.
Cons: the healthcare is not the best plan especially if you are not working full time and have dependent, personal and professional is rarely separated
Working at Whole Foods is like no other job I have ever worked. The staff is so welcoming, it is a relaxed atmosphere and they enjoy bringing out the best in people. Some of the rules and policies are an inconvenience and are not consistently followed through but that becomes something to become used to. They promote healthy living to team members.

A fun work environment
Customer Service Supervisor (Current Employee), Bedford, MA – May 1, 2013
Pros: discount on food, casual environment
Cons: short breaks, expensive healthcare plan
I have a smile on my face all the time at work, because it's generally a happy place to be. I have learned about healthy eating and healthy cooking, and in my job specifically I have learned more about managing a large team and ordering for a large business. Management is great-- IF you are on their good side. If you're not so lucky, work will be miserable.

Great culture and ideas
Prepared foods leadership (Current Employee), Denver, CO – April 30, 2013
Pros: great benefits
Cons: lack of training for/from leadership
Whole foods is a very fun and educational work environment for the food knowledge. I enjoyed everything I learned from my experiences in the past few years as in the company. Like many of my jobs in the food industry I have learned different management styles when working from kitchens to retail. The most challenging and enjoyable part of this job has – more... been dealing with many different customers and staff while finding ways to accommodate their needs on a daily bases. – less
