Waitrose became part of the John Lewis Partnership in 1937. At that point there were just ten Waitrose shops. Today there are more than 350 shops in England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands. This includes 60 convenience branches, and there are also another 27 Waitrose shops at Welcome Break motorway service stations.
The Partners who work for Waitrose are co-owners of the business and the notion of longer-term partnership is also extended to farmers and growers. At the heart of the supply chain are its producer groups that operate across livestock, milk, farmed fish, fruit and vegetable categories.
At Waitrose, we believe in championing British produce, treading lightly on the environment, supporting responsible sourcing and treating people fairly. We believe that everything we do goes into everything you taste. This is our way of doing business and we call it The Waitrose Way. We aim to combine the convenience of a supermarket with the expertise and service of a specialist shop - dedicated to offering quality food that has been responsibly sourced, combined with high standards of customer service. Waitrose also exports its products to around 60 countries worldwide and has eight shops which operate under licence in the Middle East.
As well as its shops, Waitrose provides a variety of online services with the same reputation for quality and customer service. Online grocery shopping is available at Waitrose.com while WaitroseCellar.com, WaitrosePet.com and WaitroseFlorist.com are its specialist online shops. – less
