Poor management and very unorganised
Front of House (Former Employee), Milton Keynes – May 1, 2013
Pros: free gym membership
Cons: no hours/management
Very poor management and lack of communication skills from management to colleagues. Lovely co-workers and members, good company to work for if you are a people person. Don't count on getting extra hours when you ask but they will call you last minute on days off!

A very fun place to work but can be very seclusive
Customer Services Agent (Former Employee), Barbican Support Office – May 1, 2013
Pros: free classic membership, very friendly staff, small team
Cons: monotonous
A typical day at work would mean answering calls from both members and staff of the health club chain. Resolving customer service and admin queries with an immaculate but realistic level of service. Often encouraged to go above and beyond for the member.

Management is very typical. It has very hierarchical structure and that must not be upset.

In – more... general the co-works are a loveable bunch of people. Some very memorable times.

Hardest part is consistency. Keeping yourself motivated.

The people you work with put a smile on your face 90% of the time. – less

the work place
Receptionist (Current Employee), Ilford – February 5, 2013
Pros: able to meet all kinds of people
Cons: late shifts
Daily, I interact with member either via telephone, email or one to one. The conversations are mainly enjoyable as they tell you about their lives and what they do. I get to meet members from my past, which brings up a lot of memories; however I do come across rude and unpleasant members. This has taught me to keep my cool and articulate a point across, – more... without sounding rude or undermining.

Overall I love my work place, including my co-workers and members. My work place is a second family – less

membership consaltant (Current Employee), bristol – October 15, 2012
Pros: free gym membership
Cons: long hours, rate of pay
We would set up appointments to show potentail clients around the facilities in order to sale them memberships to the gym.
Highly target driven daily plan was
30 phone calls (some cold calling)
5 appointments for following day
3 sales

we would also arrange outreach - this is where we would generate new leads from the general public

Fun and Lively Workplace.
Membership Consultant (Current Employee), Sheffield – July 10, 2012
Pros: free gym membership
Cons: long hours, no lunch breaks
A typical day at work would be to work towards your monthly target by trying to reach out to as many people as possible about Virgin Acive. We would establish corporate contacts via telephone or face to face in order to let people know what we have to offer. I would have to tour perspecrtive members and sell the club. I would have to make sure all paperwork – more... was filled out correctly and a high level of customer service was achieved at all times.
I worked in a team of 4 and it was a really engertic and fun office. It is important that motivation is kept to a high when working in a fast paced sales environment.
The hardest part of the job was time manangement. Sometimes the job demanded long hours in order for you to be on target with all KPI's.
The most enjoyable part was working with a group of people who all value the virgin way and make everyday as fun filled as possible. As a club we were labelled the 'home of ooompphhh' – less

Productive
Membercare Assistant (Former Employee), Manchester – May 18, 2012
Pros: free gym pass
Cons: bored due to lack of work
A typical day at Virgin Active consisted of lots of cleaning and just generally making sure that the gym is kept clean at all times. I gained alot of communicational and customer service/care skills due to talking to members and dealing with any problems or questions that they might have. I found some of my co-workers very enjoyable to work with and – more... at times there was a fun atmosphere to coming into work.

The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to build up friendships with members which can make it a nice and relaxed atmosphere to work out in. – less

Assistant Administrator (Current Employee), Virgin Active: Westville – May 10, 2013
Pros: company provides training to help in career growth.
Cons: long hours and unpaid overtime
Typical day is during monthend when we have to push all the deals for the sake of the consultants as they're getting paid on commision basis and also when we have to load Salaries and perform all duties for the day. I have learnt to be calm during stressful situations and cope even under pressure. I have developed management skills as I perform manager – more... on duty shifts in the absence of the general manager. I have built relationships with my co-workers as I am a peer coach and a safety rep for my club. Part of my job is to train staff with regards to new procedures. The hardest part of my job is when I have to make a decision with regards to reprimanding non-compliant staff member. What I enjoy about my job is that though it's a stressful job but I don't have someone following me to check on what I am doing, I work on my own pace as I prioritise my daily duties according to urgency and importance. – less
