great work atmosphere , enjoyable employ
manufacturer / packer / order picker (Former Employee), thorntons park ,somercotes alfreton – March 21, 2013
Pros: 25% off thorntons products even after job ending, extremely cheap onsite meals, good bonuses for night shift work
Cons: very selective unfair employment methods
a typical day was varied ,you could either be manufacturing and quality testing, order picking, packing and dispatching, dealing with replenishing or sourcing stock, keeping records ,operating line in linerunners absence, keeping to targets and order specifications

i learned many different skill's associated with the above tasks, people management – more... ,time management, working to strict deadlines, quality control, processing and dispatching of orders, dealing with people from many ethnic backgrounds

management were engaging when available but sometimes hard to reach when needed, and could have been more helpful with day to day problems associated with work issues.

the people i worked with were varied from many different cutural backgrounds and circumstances. but made for a very enjoyable work atmosphere, easy to get along with and very team sprited with few exceptions

the hardest part of the job was dealing with the constant influx of unskilled workers which recieved no training and were expected to work to the pace of those who had worked there for a good deal of time, making reaching deadlines very hard and quality control difficult

the most enjoyable part of the job was when a shift went very well and targets were met allowing for overtime in other areas – less

Fun and always busy with work to do
Sales Assistant (Current Employee), Stockport – March 2, 2013
Pros: a great retail experience to learn and targets to reach
Cons: part time
Help with serving the customers and make sure the customers are always kept happy. Keeping shelves fully stocked.ice and gift wrap products purchased in store.clean the shop stock management and sort the deliveries.

I have learned stock management and working well under pressure

i have very great team mates who all work together to help on and other – more... and who are all good fun.

the hardest part of the job is keeping on top of stock control while serving customers.

the most enjoyable part of the job is when the customer has had a good experience in the store and leaves with a smile on the face. – less

Fun work place, friendly team members
Senior sales (Current Employee), Bangor – January 18, 2013
Pros: customer based so lots of interaction
Cons: not enough hours
A typical day involves arriving at the store for half 8 to set up the tills, count the safe, and make sure everything is ready for the day. Once open the duties include filling up, wrapping stock on the shelves, serving customers, doing the weekly order, and dealing with customer complaints.
While working here I have learnt to manage my day so I don't – more... run out of time in the day. I have also learnt how to deal with someone when they become angry about something in the shop (such as being out of stock etc).
Since I have worked at the Bangor store the manager has been on maternity leave so the assistant manager has been acting as manager. She has been very helpful and understanding if people want to swap shifts or if people phone in sick. She, and all the other staff are unbelievably friendly and all do their jobs to the best of their abilities.
The hardest part of my job is doing change over. Moving the shop round, while at the same time serving and helping customers find products they need.
The best part of my job is all of it. I enjoy working, doing any role that is thrown at me. I especially like deliveries, checking all the stock that comes in and cleaning it all away after. – less

Slow paced, lonely environment to work in
Sales Assistant (Current Employee), Tamworth – October 29, 2012
Pros: easy access
Cons: short hours
A typical day at work is slow and lonesome. But I have leant to interact with customers in a more successful way. My co-workers are friendly but I do not interact with them very often. The hardest part of the job is being on your own. It is a very lonely environment.

A lovely place to work.
Senior Sales (Current Employee), Doncaster – August 28, 2012
Pros: staff benefits such as staff discount, and discounts with companies such as vodafone and the rac.
Cons: long days
Working for Thorntons has been excellent, I get there in a morning and I am kept busy until the end of my shift, smiling and chatting away with customers is great. In a job like mine there is always more and more to learn as each day goes by, this keeps it very interesting as there is always something new to be done. The management and co-workers are – more... all lovely people to work with and they have played a large part in making our shop as successful as it is. The hardest part to the job is probably when we have to deal with complaints as its quite soul destroying when someone complains at something you have worked very hard with. I really enjoy every aspect of the job, it has a lovely atmosphere and feel to the place. – less

warehouse operative (Current Employee), Alfreton, derbyshire – August 23, 2012
Pros: 3 whole days off after 3 days work
Cons: long hours in the day and tiring
the working environment is set out well to produce lots of products but on a typical day it is very stressful and tiring. Most of the work is very repetitive. it is tiring due to the jobs are boring and the working hours are 12 hour shifts 3 days in a row

Not a good place to work...poorly managed!!!
CSR/Cashier (Current Employee), Edgewood, KY – January 2, 2013
Pros: free fountain drinks for employees
Cons: lil or no breaks or lunches
I am sure not all Thornton's Stores are bad ! But the one in Edgewood store # 553 has very little accountability for poor performance by employees!!! Poor scheduling!!! Management lets another CSR cashier make out the schedule and not enough people scheduled at the proper times and second/third shift employees suffers a lot because of this and all the – more... regular customers suffer as well waiting in long lines because only one or two people are scheduled to work trying to complete shift tasks from 1st shift! 1st shift has way to many scheduled on a daily basis...any where from 5 to 6 people and leaving a lot of things not done which carry over for second shift!!! There is no place to take a break or to eat your lunch and they don't let you sit down! Smokers get to go outside every 2hrs for a smoke break! – less

CSR (Former Employee), Cary, IL – September 30, 2012
Cons: yep
Politics get involved as you work there more and more...making the work experience less about you your coworkers or the community you work for and absolutely all about the bottom line of corporate greed. Avoid jobs like these even in your most desperate hours.

Customer Service, Sandwich Artist (Current Employee), Groveport, OH – July 21, 2012
A typical day at work would include making one sub after another. I enjoy seeing regular customers everyday and talking with other employees. The hardest part of the job is trying to make things easier and quicker when lunch and dinner rush arrives.
