Pros: good flexible benefits schemes
Cons: if your face don't fit! attitude
National Grid id a good place to work in terms of benefits and the environment. It has a good diverse culture and is highly concerned with I&D issues. Work life balance can be difficult as some of the jobs are highly demanding.

really fast paced company at times, but an enjoyable place to work
admin assistant, trainer and coach (Former Employee), northampton, Leicester – January 30, 2013
Pros: good money and hours to suit
Cons: location
There wasn't really a typical day at work as everyday was different with it being a face paced company we were always on the go and never a dull moment, from speaking with customers with different kinds of problems that needed resolving to dealing with the engineers and delegating work load, I learned how to work well as part of a very busy team but – more... also how to manage and work using my own iniative, The management at National Grid was pretty good as you could always go to them if you need help or advice along with my co workers you become like a little family so its much easier to get along and help each other out if needed.
The most enjoyable part of the job was building a repore with the customers and engineers and feeling satisfied at the end of the day that you did your very best to resolve any problems and to get the workload done, i would say the hardest part of the job was in very busy periods and being short staffed not always being able to get everything done that you wanted to and not being able to switch off. – less

enjoyed, learn more about the company
Customer Service Adviser (Former Employee), Hinckley, Leicestershire. – May 20, 2012
Pros: lots of new thing learn and enjoyable.
Cons: too far from home.
A typical day starts by checking my outstanding complaints and making sure that I will be solving them by the end of the day. Check if anything needs to be done to solve it, it cannot be solved transfer it to extended complaint.

Leanred about the whole processed of how electricity/gas is managed as well as overseas interes/involvment of the company. – more... The management and co-workers wre very helpful and I enjoyed working there. Left the job because it was too far and commuting was long as well as expensive and time consuming. Besides I don't like driving during the winter months when the days are shorter and it gets dark together with the icy riskly conditions on the road.

The difficult part (only had 1 during my stay there) was when I couldn't solve the issue within the time span (10 days) and had to pass on the complaint, I prefer to complete all complaints that I log and besides informing the customer that I will be passing the complaint over was a bit of problem as we didn't succeed to solve the complaint within the target period.

I enjoy talking to customers especially when am able to help them as it is very satisfying and be that I have accomplished my task successfully. – less

I was able to learn as much as time permitted me in this position. I was able to advance quickly with all the training obtained/provided. Co workers were the BEST people I could have ever possibly met. Can never forget an individual at a place like this. The hardest part of the job was, not being able to maintain my position here. Servicinf the contract and non contract customers.. but with the great team that i worked with, we pulled together to make the demanding season successful, which was the best part – more... of the job for me – less

The enjoyable part of the job
Opperations Supervisor OPC Trouble Dept. (Former Employee), Clifton Park, NY – March 12, 2013
Pros: good bonuses, 401 k
Cons: management back stabbers
I loved my job with the grid, I enjoyed helping the OPC's with their work and helping them with their general problems.I enjoyed the training that was exposed to me and the ready and assability of the training information.I enjoyed the area that I was assigned and the consumers were in general easy going and understanding. The only thing I didn't like – more... was the back stabbing in management and unreliability in upper management to back you up when you need them.My manager was a tipical lier and wouldn't confirm that he gave a directive to do anything. – less

Not for the IT professional
Senior IS analyst (Former Employee), Syracuse, ny – March 8, 2013
Pros: partial work from home; good remote access; good salary and benefits
Cons: conservative management, not open to new ideas;no parking for new employees
The IT department now depends on contractors. This is not the place to work if you want to do technical work, especially programming since little is done inhouse. Most IT folks only have "soft" skills - tech work mostly done by contractors. Management is not forward thinking or client oriented. Will allow work from home part time. There is no company – more... parking for employees with less than 10 years. – less
