Educational but unfulfilling
Cashflow Analyst (Current Employee), Manchester – February 12, 2013
Pros: relaxed environment
Cons: no where to progress
There are many different aspects to the role on a day to day basis. It starts by Locating any relevant schedules in order to bank the outstanding money to the correct pension schemes. This can be difficult as for many schemes we receive hundreds of Annuity payments which often do not have schedules. You have to make sure you have a keen eye to be able – more... to spot the emails that relate to any of the schemes you have been given, this could contain member payments or a change in investment / disinvestment process. I will usually complete about 4 cashflows a day, I have to be vigilant as if an instruction or email is missed, it may not get picked up until the next cashflow is being prepared, which is usually the following month.
I've learnt how to correctly prepare cashflows so that we will have enough money to cover any expenditure for the foreseeable month. I have also learnt how to answer queries relating to the cashflow or the contributions which we receive.
The most challenging part of the job is getting to grips with the terminology used. As it is solely pension schemes, there is specific and correct terminology which has to be used.
The most enjoyable part of my job is the response I receive from the trustees or the company keeping them up to date and in the loop with the cashflow process. Building client relationships is of the most important and rewarding aspects. – less

Excellent Company
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Chicago, IL – May 14, 2013
Pros: excellent training on any material you needed
Cons: nothing to report
Lots of client interface with large companies.

Learned more about the Consulting Industry.

I worked with 40 individuals of all levels of executives and managed to understand what each person would expect of me on a daily bases.

Not having much personal time with family and friends.

The most I enjoyed about this company was how to look at different – more... projects and have the knowledge to know how to complete with all the skills and ability I have to offer. – less

Good/Bad
Human Resources Benefit Representative (Current Employee), Vernon Hills, IL – May 11, 2013
Pros: co workers
Cons: short breaks, constant change, and commute
Typical day is taking about 50-65 calls a day inbound in reference to pensions. Ive learned alot about retirement plans and different types of pensions. I love all of my co-workers we really look out for each other.
The worse thing about the current job is there is constant change. Its, either your shift time, or the clients you take. Sometimes you – more... get out on a new client without any training nor the correct systems needed to do well with the client. – less

Clean workplace, great people and challenging accounts
Claims Executive / Administrator (Current Employee), Singapore, S00 – May 2, 2013
Pros: group activites, free movies, free bowling, free lunch sometimes.
Cons: not enough flex benefits (amount). will be better if it will be a bit higher.
Mercer is a global consulting leader in talent, health, retirement and investments. I am a Benefits Administrator (Claims Executive) under the Health and Benefits department. I handle self-funded (Medical and Flex) claims.

Mercer is a nice place to work in. I am lucky because my colleagues, immediate supervisors and managers are friendly and helpful. – more... Even though we have different cultures, beliefs and grew up from different parts of the world, we always understand and respect each other.

The most challenging part of being a benefits administrator is handling complaints, dissapointed queries and issues from clients, which includes the employees and HR personnel. There will be times that you really need to exert a lot of effort and time to handle such; however, from these challenges, I learn to become more mature in handling my work and also grow to become more professional.

I enjoy every part of my current job. I am satisfied and thankful for the opportunity given to me. Each and every single day is a learning process, and I am eager to strive more and work harder as time goes by. I always do my best in any task(s) given to me, and I am happy that they are being recognized well. – less

re:DON'T WORK IN THIS HELLHOLE!
Participant Services Rep. (Former Employee), Norwood – April 19, 2013
Pros: free parking
Cons: no breaks, constant criticism from bosses. no raises
Too many calls, not enough help. You get yelled at all day by callers. Supervisors never back you up and point out everything you did wrong. No room to advance unless you suck up. Working in this job gave me a nervous breakdown.

Productive place always changing
Health and Benefits/ Pension Representative (Current Employee), Norwood, MA – April 16, 2013
Cons: gets extremely busy and people like to yell and disrespect you when things dont go their way.
A normal day at work would be me coming in signing into my phone and systems on the computer. Taking inbound calls on health and benefit/ pension issues or processing health and benefit enrollments along with pension kit request. We also made outbound calls on requested issues that could not be handled same day. We receive stats throughout the day which – more... helps with time management on calls and how to work your calls. My co-workers are very friendly and helpful always willing to lend a help in hand if they could. The hardest part. of the job is feedback from the manager in which we get twice a month on errors made, improvement needed, and nothing positive really just critical for improvement. The most enjoyable part. of the job was lunchtime sitting enjoying time with my co-workers talking over changes in the company, where we want to go in the company and our personal lives. . – less

This company is a good company but they allow the technical support supervisor to abuse her employees. It is a totally unprofessional environment.

Participant Service Representative (Former Employee), Houston, TX – April 4, 2013
Pros: professional environment, health benefits, fee coffe
Cons: leadership guidance
I learned alot from Mercer when it comes to Health Benefits. I do feel as though there was a disconnection with guidance or leadership. This is a place where you learn on your own.

Pros: training
Cons: everything else
The training and experience with the first 2 months. But the job loses it's allure very quickly when you see that you are chained to your desk and doing work that requires little skills.

SR. Employee Benefits Representative (Former Employee), Houston, TX – March 14, 2013
Pros: lunch trucks
Cons: management, organization
Mercer has the best benefits, they were a little expensive but they had a EPO plan that had no deductible and paid everything at 100% after co pays. They had excellent benefits.

A typical work day at Mercer for me was to sign into all my applications (Agent Desktop, Benefit Workstation, and Siebel)so that I can handle my calls accordingly. We took – more... calls for 15 different clients.
I learned a lot about benefits and HR policies and procedures especially since I have been attending school for Human Resource Management. The hardest part about working at Mercer is that it was not a very well organized company, we did not always have the information that we needed to provide to our participants, systems were not up to date to deal with all the applications that we worked with.
Mercer was a great experience in learning about benefits and HR management, but I am looking for more advancement and they do not offer that. – less
