Not a good company to work for.
Online driver (Former Employee) –  Newbury10 December 2017
This job is nothing like as advertised. I only got to work between 3pm to 11pm on most shifts after my initial training and double shifts on Sunday. Be prepared to load your own van from scratch at the start of your shift as their are few GA's available during the afternoon shifts.
Expected to work with broken equipment and deal with very strict time limits.

Poor managers whose only concerns is to cover their own backsides. Reporting bad equipment is met with a negative attitude and frowned upon.

Very poor pay at £9.01 an hour.

And good luck trying to find way out addresses in the country in the pitch black!!! You are expected to work to a very strict time frame.

Awful
Online Shopper (Former Employee) –  Colchester, Essex3 December 2017
Getting up at 3 is no fun, to go to work and be treated like dirt. We were constantly being hassled about picking time targets 117 items per hour which I found impossible. Not allowed to talk to anyone and not allowed music. I used to shop in Sainsbury’s but the whole experience has put me off. The management of online shopping was terrible and I witnessed occasions of manegerial tears and arguments. The online staff are very nice people but work so hard for minimum wage and terrible hours.
Pros
Staff discount and free parking
Cons
Unsociable hours and rude management

When you are out on the road it is fine you get to plan and change your runs where needed as long as you call customers.
If you want to work all weekend and late shifts then this is for you as this will be all that is given. Day and early shifts only go to special members of staff.
Pros
once out own boss
Cons
poor wages poor work hours

Can be enjoyable
Groceries Online Shopper (Former Employee) –  Dunstable, Bedfordshire20 November 2017
I started this job in August and left in October, waking up at 3am to get there to then instantly be put in a bad mood because of poor management and team leaders. Job can also be very tedious with handsets not being clear on what to do in certain situations which leads team leaders to be constantly on your back for not picking enough items per hour. If you don't sleep as soon as you get home then you will be exhausted throughout the day. All in all it can be enjoyable as they let you listen to music while you work but it will be cut short by pointless nagging and tedious specifics.
Pros
Short hours, gives you a full day.
Cons
Poor management, early shifts

Online driving is tough but ok !
Online Delivery Driver (Current Employee) –  South Bucks19 November 2017
I have worked as an online driver for two years and have found Sainsbury's a good company to work for. Management is ok and you are always treated with respect. The job of a driver is physically tough but you have the advantage of being out on the road without anybody looking over your shoulder! Days vary a lot both in shift length and number of drops and you need to be fully flexible 7 days a week from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm.

The worst part of the job is delivering after dark on afternoon/evening shifts during the Winter which can be really difficult even for experienced drivers. Customers tend not to consider how easy they are to find after dark or if there is anywhere to park! During the Summer however even the evening shifts can be quite nice.

The majority of shifts don't have any waiting time these days and it is easy to fall behind schedule due to traffic etc, but that's ok as long as you let customers know that you are going to be late.

Most people don't stick it for more than a few weeks/months due to the physical nature of the job and the unsocial hours but the job gets easier with time as you get to know the routes and many of the customers that you will be delivering to.

Treated very unfairly ,90% of the staff talk about you behind your back and make your job as difficult as possible and most of the management are useless they couldn't of cared less about me. I regret applying there and would not reccomend it to anyone.

AVOID!! Management are a joke
General Assistant (Former Employee) –  Kettering, Northamptonshire7 November 2017
A depressing place to work, management have favourites and if your face don't fit your called into the office continuosly. Management also choose to cut your hours with no action so you loose pay. The money may seem a good thing who don't want to work for £10 an hour but when they send you home with 4+ hours left of your shift that £10 is worth nothing!!
Pros
The hourly rate
Cons
Sent hime early, management dont have a clue, nasty back stabbing place to work

Counters Assistant (Former Employee) –  Thanet, Kent1 November 2017
Enjoyed my role initially but lack of communication between management and colleagues (if you ever saw them),rules changed daily so you was underinformed so you are constantly in the wrong! HR no longer exist, Cleaners hours cut, Security hours cut causing more work for already overworked colleagues, have a day off for illness you are treated like a non entity,

Team Leader (Former Employee) –  Somerset26 October 2017
A good place to work and progress is attainable if you fit what they want/need.
Wage is ok but is not far above the minimum, as a colleague you get contracted hours but any higher teamleader/manager you have to just work the hours they need of you, but can sometimes be changed these if you have something on. I worked a lot of weekends but had a very fair manager so generally got the weekend off I needed.

The worst management team
Customer Assistant (Former Employee) –  Redhill, Surrey25 October 2017
The management team does not know how to manage the staff and they believe they are superiors to everybody, all of us are not good for them.
They do not appreciate the skills, the hard work, I am not sure what they are looking for.
It is only what they want, no the company first.

Pretty straight forward job. It can be mundane but you can ask to be put on other departments to spice things up. Management are always running around with their own workload but they take their team seriously meaning that they are alway their to have a quick chat.
