Worst place to work
General Assistant (Former Employee) –  Orpington, Greater London13 October 2017
The management have no idea about the work they taking you on and most of the times they not around even if so if you ask something they say yes yes but probably nothing ever will happen staff are mostly unfriendly and not welcoming at all most of them complaining about the job all day long there's gossips continuously it's really negative overall not a place you want to be unless you are the same negative person you will feel as outcast. Some departments are dying from the amount of work they expect you to do then you see other departments in a group and chatting around proves the management have no idea about the job and can't make a decent rota some sections have 4-5 people for an easy job others struggling on their own.I was really excited to work here they make it look like it's a good place to work with their training website and induction day but don't get fooled it's nothing like that once you arrive in store to get your training nobody will care about you at all very disappointing
Pros
Good pay for nights
Cons
Negative place to work management useless

Restaurant Assistant (Former Employee) –  Hinckley, Leicestershire19 September 2017
Definitely wouldn't recommend working for Sainsburys cafe in hinckley there is no where near enough staff, to much work gets put on top of employees! Duty management are awful (not all) they total disregard of other staff members!
Pros
Friendly people, great wages and 10% discount (let's face it you need it to shop at Sainsburys!)
Cons
You just get shoved in at the deep end and told to get on with it!

Not a great place to work
General Assistant (Current Employee) –  Middleton, Greater Manchester19 September 2017
The twilight shift is very fast paced, in a 6 hour shift the volume of work is high, management tend to be negative .with unrealistic expectations. Negative atmosphere, no praise for the hard work but plenty of criticism.

Just a boring place to work.
General Assistant (Current Employee) –  Prestwick, South Ayrshire13 September 2017
If you enjoy any kind of mental stimulation in your work do not apply for this job. The days are mundane and repetitive. The hours are extremely anti-social. The management is poor and those perceived to be in charge are often no where to be seen.
Pros
Good salary if you are not the main earner in your household.
Cons
Anti-social hours, poorly managed, boring days

Treatment from management is terrible
Warehouse Operative (Former Employee) –  Devon6 September 2017
Mental health isn't supported by Sainsburys! Off sick with it & once I returned I was issued a written warning! Awful company. Duty managers walk past you and dont even acknowledge you. If asked I bet they wouldn't know what department you work on! Seriously a terrible company with poor management skills from top to bottom! Do your best and it's still not good enough. Expect blood from you without praise! Constantly cutting hours but expect more. If your late finishing you get no thanks for helping out or even paid for doing the extra hours to help the company. Take take take that's all they do! No longer employed by them thankfully and I wouldn't recommend them as a company to work for.
Pros
Hour changes at short notice
Cons
Poor management from top to bottom

Team Leader (Former Employee) –  J Sainsbury's29 August 2017
Very sugar coated looks great to the eye for a job but they will stab and get you out as soon as they can.!! All has changed since the new CEO has shaken things up moved a well established retailer to the pits.
Pros
Paid lunch, paid lunches.
Cons
Long hours no appreciation, company has changed its morals.

Productive Place to Work
Confectioner (Current Employee) –  Kelso, Scottish Borders22 August 2017
Sainsburys is a good place to interact with people, both colleagues and customers, There can be a lot of fun in the store with various events that might include dressing up etc. I have learned several new skills since joining the Sainsburys team including confectionery and personal shopping and there are lots of perks. On the down side, it is hard work, they expect a lot from their colleagues but it can be very rewarding providing a good service for the customer, I would say that, is the most enjoyable part of the job for me.

Dreadful Pay and hours.
Deliver Driver (Former Employee) –  Southampton, Hampshire14 August 2017
You're forced to watch video segments on the induction about how Sainsbury's hold higher expectations and spend more money to be better than their competitors. Well that must be for everything bar the employees as they offer you the absolute minimum wage they can for your time and effort. There's a reason they don't put in the application. Management were fine it wouldn't be that bad a place to work I suppose if your happy earning shirt buttons with very little chance of progression.
Pros
Management were fair.
Cons
Minimum wage, ever changing shift patterns.

Not what its cracked up to be
Online Delivery Driver (Former Employee) –  Bridgemead swindon11 August 2017
I have first hand experience of this job. The hours can be unsociable as you're expected to work 3 late nights a week, upto 11pm, with no extra pay to reflect this. The times allocated per drop are ridiculous and unreasonable plus breaks can be virtually non existent. The only thing going for this job is the pension, which is pretty good, whatever you pay in the company matches but that's about all the pluses I can mention. As for the long service rewards that are mentioned.... that is usually a plastic gold plated badge no monetary reward at all and the bonus is based on meeting targets ie mystery customer and availability if those aren't met you'll get 1% of you annual salary. If they are met you'll get a whopping 3% which equates to about £350 ish. To be honest I'm glad to be out of there. To sum up, it's a hard job as you could be expected to do 26-30 drops per shift, for about £8 per hour. Hence why the driver turnover is high.
Pros
Great bunch of people to work with.
Cons
Too much expected for too little pay

General Assistant (Current Employee) –  Godalming, Surrey9 August 2017
If you are looking to pursue a management career do not look here. Management are awful. Constantly cutting hours from you, singling you out, having favourites. You will never get a favour for them unless you are a favourite, no matter how many favours you give them.

Working life and social life is a bad balance as they do not allow you to have more than 2 weeks off at a time. You have to work atleast one day of the weekend. No extra pay for Sunday hours.

Online Shopper (Former Employee) –  Dorset25 July 2017
Typical days consists of - Being looked down on by managers - being treated like your something they stepped in - losing their rag at you for no reason and then paying you absolutely rubbish wages for the pleasure .

I learned that I am SO much better than to work for a company like this

The best thing about this job is the staff - they are the loveliest people and I made some truly lovely people.

The hardest part of the job was not telling them to stick it on a daily basis

The most enjoyable part of the job was the on the floor workers - who are the ones that keep this company afloat and make it worthwhile
