Busy working environment
Food & beverage assistant (Current Employee), Hoylake, the wirral – August 28, 2012
Pros: discounted meals
Cons: unsociable hours
I work in a busy restaurant but unfortunately I feel I could be working in a higher position as I feel I take on more responsibility than other members of the team. The hours are fairly unsociable and I feel that because I'm only on minimum wage I have to work about 50 hrs a week to earn a decent amount of money every month. Job involves taking orders, – more... processing them through the till, working on the bar serving alcohol & hot beverages, dealing with customers, working in a team, general waitress duties. – less

Productive and very professional environment
Front Desk Manager/Auditor (Current Employee), Montgomery, AL – May 23, 2013
Pros: discounts on hotel stays when going out of town.
Cons: being there alone late nights with no security.15
The IHG company is a very organized and professional place to work. We deal with a lot of Corporate people Monday thru Friday and sporting teams and travelers on the weekend. I have learned to be patient and kind no matter what the problem may be. My co-workers all work together as a team and this makes it easier when dealing with different people from – more... all walks of life. The hardest part of my job has to be when guest complain about things that are way beond our control such as the way they structured the building. The most enjoyable part of my job is when I deal with children and elderly people. I love helping people who really need the help. I also like working with my staff and doing things that make their day easier. – less

Structured and organized
Complimentary Breakfast Associate (Former Employee), Fort Sill, OK – April 19, 2013
Pros: working on post in fort sill and feeling very well protected.
Cons: short breaks
A typical day at work consisted of being able to serve and assist our American and Foriegn Soldiers with their breakfast selections. An associate in this field would be responsible for stocking up the breakfast items and condiments then around lunch, take out the trash. Days were short, but definitely early. My co-workers were nice ladies, the hardest – more... part of the job was lifting all the trashbags into the dumpster. However, the most ejoyable part of the job was being paid top dollar for such an easy job, as well as, being done with all my duties before noon! – less

Problems with Managment
Former employee (Former Employee), Ft,Stewart Ga – March 21, 2013
Pros: enjoy meeting new people and helping those who serve our country
Cons: managment has no clue. and doesn't care about employees
Manager plays favorites to much. Only promotes those who will bow down to her whether they are qualified or not. She has absolutely no respect for anyone or their trade. Will hire family members over qualified people. Thinks she knows it all. Manages by intimidation.Gives no support. If you need a simple toilet flapper to repair a guests room, You may – more... have to wait 30 days to get it. Will not spent money for maintenance but will spend 2000.00 dollars for 3 square yards of carpet behind a desk that no one will see. If you are in maintenance, You will not be happy. – less

Reservations Agent (Current Employee), Charleston, SC – January 31, 2013
Morning shift starts off slow and volume picks up as day goes on. I learned alot about the hotel business. Management try to help you as needed, but mostly your own your own after training. Hardest part of the job is taking calls in queue for entire shift during busy season. Most enjoyable time is when you have opportunity to leave work early on slow – more... days. – less

F&B Manager Dept. Head (Current Employee), Duabi, UAE – November 11, 2012
As a part of their hiring philosophy, IHG has a competency based interviewing process. Their IHG philosophy of ‘Winning Ways: Do The Right Thing, Show We Care, Aim Higher, Celebrate Difference and Work Better Together', is integrated with each competency category. Therefore, each candidate is also screened for compatibility with ‘Winning Ways' in addition – more... to professional skills before they are finally hired. They measure the behavior that their employees demonstrate against established and documented standards.

Their leadership competencies and brand service behaviors, which are the qualitative measures of effective job performance (or the 'how' you deliver), help them do this. Up-selling usually involves marketing more profitable services or products, but up-selling could also mean exposing the customer to other options he/she may not have considered previously. The management recognizes/rewards those staff members who manage to successfully up-sell rooms and wines for their respective departments, which include front office and food & beverage services. The employees who manage to do so are awarded with monetary incentives and certificates in town hall events.

As a part of their learning and development initiatives, IHG has come up with a ‘Cross Training Policy'. This policy helps the employees in understanding the business and inter-departmental co-ordination required for smoother operations. This also empowers the employees by increasing their skills and knowledge of other departments for enhanced performance in their current roles. There have been many cases in the last year when employees were recognized for their hard work and were given a chance to demonstrate and develop their skills in other departments. For example, a team member from housekeeping (room attendant) was transferred to front office as a bell boy for cross exposure; a female employee from telephones was transferred to the business center; the bell boy was transferred within the same department as an airport representative; and two lobby assistants were transferred to telephones and bell desk. All in all, the organization takes its employees' welfare very seriously and goes out of its way to ensure that right from the word 'go', the employees feel the warmth. - "quote SM" – less

Great people company with a lot of opportunity for personal and professional growth
Administrative Assistant / Coordinator (Former Employee), Atlanta, GA – September 10, 2012
IHG respects and values its team members. The company understands the importance of life outside of work and is very reasonable when it comes to individual's schedules. Each morning, team members greet each other in passing and support for one another, for the most part, is easily seen.

Most managers care for their team members and encourage them to – more... develop their career growth. Programs and training is always available and the open door policy is a must for all to follow to encourage openness amongst team members.

The challenge found at IHG is the momentum. It is strong to achieve its goal in guest satisfactory that it tends to lead departments blind when implanting any policy, procedure and tool. This isn't the case to all things rolled out, but it is difficult to get decision makers to slow down and take a deeper look into details to any initiative. The drive to move forward and just state the bottom line tends to give any rolled out initiative a missing element because a detail was over looked causing flaws.

But after a days work, IHG team members tend to go home happy as IHG is all about the people; for IHG knows that to deliver guest satisfaction, those who are delivering must be satisfied. – less

Average day
Customer Care Manager (Current Employee), North Charleston, SC – July 16, 2012
Answer guest calls and try to figure out the best way to address their concern. Being a billing issue, insurance issue or a service issue. I have always been a problem solver however I do have to act a bit more quickly know which I love.
The hardest part is being away from my family. The pay is great but I am losing out on the thing I treasure most – more... which is family. – less

problems with this particular hotel!!
Front Office Manager (Former Employee), Ft. Campbell, KY – June 11, 2012
Pros: great benefits after the 90-day periods.
The managers there are over-bareing and do not care about the employees- unless it's the ones they drink with on the weekends. Other members of management have been accussed of Harrassement but nothing ever is done about it. If you want a job and be able to keep your life outside of work, I would not recommend this position. Also, the GM has no clue – more... what her assistant is doing behind her back. They love to listen to the lies of other employees too. So I warn anyone who is applying for this position to make nice with everyone because a selected few will lie on you and stab you in the back. – less
