ignorance
na (Former Employee), wales – May 9, 2013
Cons: arrogant and ignorant
Tried phoning the telecom team on 3 different numbers not one answered left messages on each phone not one person got back to me

Also emailed no response from them

My advice go to a different agency they only take people on from word of mouth I should know from past experience with a few family members who think about themselves

Business Support Officer (Current Employee), Victoria Street, London – May 8, 2013
Pros: flexibility
Cons: travel
Good company, very relaxing environment.
Shared workload with colleagues.
There is no area in the role I consider to be hard.
The most enjoyable part is getting all the work done on time to meet deadline and the flexibility once work has been prioritised.

Hays is a recruitment agency
British Telecom Frames Engineer (Former Employee), South Wales – April 4, 2013
Pros: full time work
Cons: rolling one month contracts
I worked for British Telecom on behalf of Hays Recruitment, I worked in teams of two unsupervised in various BT Exchanges across South, West & Mid Wales running & connecting telephone & broadband wires. I learnt how to be a Frames Engineer working in hand with other BT employees to keep on top of a busy schedule working to strict H & S rules. BT management – more... & employees were always very helpful & supportive, I made many friends during my time there & keep in touch with my partner & many others from the company. Learning this new role was very difficult but i was given plenty of support & grew into the role quickly to become a trusted & competent member of the team. I got a great deal of enjoyment from travelling to various places of work meeting new people & having the trust of my manager to be left alone to do my work knowing that all work would be completed. – less

Fun place to work
Recruitment consultant (Current Employee), Swansea – March 24, 2013
Pros: staff benefits
Cons: long hours
Day to day I call clients to find new opportunities within companies, I also call candidates to register them and find out what they are looking for. I go out and meet clients also which is a part I enjoy about the role. I have learnt a lot about questioning people and how to negotiate with clients. The management style is not consistent, you can see – more... this in the staff turnover. There is a real team feel within the office everyone works together. The hardest part of the role are the long hours (830-6). – less

Terrible customer service.
Accounts assistant (Former Employee), Leeds – February 28, 2013
I would also recommend any other agency except for this one.
Hays never gave feedback. They would not phone to inform you If you were unsuccessful in a job.

Fast paced and no two days the same
Recruitment Consultant (Former Employee), Cardiff and Swansea – February 25, 2013
Pros: always busy, interesting work, helping others so good job satisfaction.
Cons: long hours more and more is asked of you.
A day at Hays will see you in at 8am to sort out your email and filter through your CV responses from the previous day. Then at half eight you will be calling your candidates to stay in touch as well as phoning new candidates to find out more details around their experience and hopefully invite them in for an interview. At 10am you start your business – more... development calls to new and existing businesses. dinner at 12 then client meetings at 1pm. 2pm start business development again till 4. Then do an hour of candidate work till 5 at which time you interview a candidate then spend the last half hour prepping for the next day. – less

Appalling customer service
Administrator (Former Employee), Leicester – January 30, 2013
Of the 4 agencies I joined, Hays were the only agency that never gave feedback. If you were unsuccessful in a job, they would not phone to inform you & when you call them, they do not return your calls. I phoned 3 times for feedback & was not called back once. I would recommend any other agency except this one.

Great company to deal with in Ireland; dealt with someone who knows the market; complete honesty about the company and promotion prospects - I Hope!
Management Accountant (Current Employee), Derry – January 2, 2013
Pros: very appraochable consultant, understands the finance environment, did everything she promised, got me the job i want.
Cons: insecurity of job - not hays fault, but a concern for me.
My experience was very postiive and refreshing. I saw a senior finance role, applied and met with a bright and knowledgeable consultant. I got interviewed twoice - surprisingly - for a 9 month contract, and have just started today. Very pleased with everything, and would recommend Hays in Ireland.

Don't use them
Associate Recruitment Consultant (Former Employee), Wigan – November 22, 2012
Pros: you get to know how the recruitment industry really works
Cons: dishonest
I was taken on by Hays themselves as a consultant and they repeatedly extended my probation. The first time it was because "they hadn't seen enough of me in the office" (as they had sent me on training for the first six weeks). The second time they extended it "was because the desk hasn't really taken off in the area". I did query this and my boss said – more... "if you continue to try as hard as this in the next month, its not you, its the desk in this area. And if it still hasn't taken off this time next month, its a conversation I will have to have with the Area Director about moving you somewhere else". I was the HIGHEST in the REGION for Business Development calls, Client Interviews and Candidate interviews in the next month. I was taken into a room last week and just told to leave and not come back. I was told that my contract was being terminated with immediate effect because "the desk still hasn't taken off and its a results driven industry". – less

Anon45 – 29 November 2012

That is very disappointing news but nonethelss insightful insider knowledge which is incredibly important for a reputable agency such as Hayes. I hope their senior managers read this site and take appropriate action. I was actually considering applying for a post advertised by Hayes but on principle now question whether I want to be associated with such an agency. Whilst I believe there are two sides to every story and certainly yours beggars belief, I am aware of how a focus on targets and profits sometime promote cutting corners to create a less efficient workforce not to mention a prime breeding ground for developing a culture of bullying. Not acceptable in my book but who in Hayes will take notice and actually do something about this appalling practice.

– 01 December 2012

Totally agree with you they are by far the worst recruitment agency out there in the market place and I would advise any potential candidates not to register with them and any potential employers to stay well clear and use a other recruitment company. Totally untrustworthy and not fit for purpose!!!

Pros: easy employment-basic work
Cons: job security low
o.k for an infill job, hays generally are a very good company within the construction industry. As a cscs labourer,my duties were very basic to keeping the site clear of general debris and to clean up after other tradespeople.A very good basic job for filling in those little expenses, where you need some spare cash!
