Fun and enjoyable
sales assistant (Former Employee), Caerphilly – May 9, 2013
I found my work experience in Halfords fun and enjoyable. I found working with customers, being face to face a bonus to the role as it made me feel the sense of achievement when helping out customers.

Good work environment
Sales assistant (Current Employee), Folkestone – April 28, 2013
Pros: opportunity of over time
Cons: low wages
I enjoy working with the other colleagues at Halfords and work closely with all of them. I am a sales assistant and cashier and stationed at the till area during busy periods of the shift. When it is not busy, I am on the shop floor assisting customers and approaching any offering my services. Towards the end of the shift I ensure the till area is tidy – more... and face up any products on the shop floor. The most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction of being able to help the customer with their needs. Whilst the hardest part of the job is when there is a lack of staff present in the store to meet the demands of the customers instantly. – less

Sales assistant (Former Employee), Barry – April 25, 2013
Pros: 10 % off in kfc
Cons: long hours unpaid
I learnt a lot in Halfords, they taught me how to build bikes, be respectable and how to act in a busy workplace. The hardest part of the job was carrying bikes up the stair's and shelving them up in order.

Sales assistant (Current Employee), Paisley – April 17, 2013
Pros: always learning new things
Cons: only 7 hours a week
At Halfords I'm a fitter/cashier so I'm always out learning new things which I enjoy the most. I really enjoy working as a team with my colleagues but I'm also a fast worker on my own.

Great workplace to lay the foundations for a career in management
assistant manager (Current Employee), Brighton, Hove and Burgess Hill – April 10, 2013
Pros: some cool incentives
Cons: work / home balance
I have learnt a lot about myself while working with Halfords. It has made me want to progress my career in retail. Having worked my way up from a full timer in the warehouse to an assistant manager and an acting store manager I have learnt how to adapt my management skills when needed. I have made many a great friends over the past and seen ex colleague's – more... move on to their chosen roles hoping that I have helped them progress in a little way. The most enjoyable part has to be the engagement with customers, meeting someone who so far to that point in their day was having a bad one but giving them a great experience with us allowed them to start having a better one. – less

Fun Workplace
Sales Assistant (Current Employee), Portsmouth – March 26, 2013
Pros: in store discount
Cons: travel to work
Dealing with customers needs throughout the day. Often I would at first have to deal with the days delivers and make sure they are put safely. My job was is hands on as I would have to build the bikes as they are brought. This would also mean we have to correct heights for he customer and also make sure it has the full safety check.
The hardest part – more... of this job would be some of the heavy lifting during delivery due to at times being the only person working on this area and there being a lot to do.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with my team and working with customers. I also enjoyed the challenges put to me by my employer. – less

fun place to work
sales assistant (Current Employee), Kidderminster – March 26, 2013
Pros: depeding on how many hours we do we usually get a break.
Cons: the usual hours range from 3-7 hours
A typical day at work is either doing the stock, working on the till and giving every customer that comes in brilliant custoemr service and maing sure everyone gets served and find everything they need. Sometimes I have to work upstairs in Bikehut and help build some of the bikes. I have learnt how to build a bike, print tickets for the prices, how – more... to order a product in if the customer needs it and we haven't got it in stock. Do the stock take and do gap checking. The management changed when I started working at Halfords but from what I've heard working there the previous manager was really good. The new manager is also very good and we have a new cheif executive for the company who has changed it for the better. My co - workers are very helpful and if I need some help finding something or need help dealing with a customer then they will come over and take it out of my hands if needed. The hardest part of my job would have to be dealing with some of the customer requests as sometime's if they have seen it online and it says we have some in stock it may be the one on display and we cant sell it they usually get quite irriated and we have to deal with the situation in a professional way. The most enjoyable part of my job would be meeting different people every day and sometimes we have the regualrs come in and have a chat which is nice. I also like to help out a customer if they are struggling find a product and i'll help find it or if we haven't got any in then I would find something that does a similar job to what they need. – less

Drive to move the business to the next level
Sales Manager (Current Employee), Hove – March 14, 2013
Pros: driven individuals, powerful market position, clear promotion
Cons: basic levels of project focus in business moves
Since starting Halfords I have realised the management challenge is lower and less demanding that what I am used to. However the colleagues working around me are the most focussed I have worked with. Many working within the group simply because they love the products and services within the business and see it as a second family.

My days at present – more... are bringing in a much more focussed business strategy combined with a succinct sales strategy. The teams are not sales colleagues and therefore I am spending time developing sales programmes to coach, develop and progress them in this field.

I manage to spend time each day streamlining the coarse processes that are in store and streamlining the operation.

A true customer experience is the aim, aiming at shop floor theatre and promoting growth within the team.

My hardest part of the day is understanding my promotional aspects past store management due to the lack of challenge and intrigue I see in the industry as the manager is still seen as an active member of the team, many times expected to be in the car park fitting bulbs etc and I see this as a detremental aspect to the business as you lose control of your team, sales and store when outside. – less

Varied and somewhat interesting place to work.
Sales Associate (Former Employee), London – March 10, 2013
Pros: people, staff discount
Cons: inadequate training programme.
- Enter and begin to serve to customers, this would be from our 3B section which encounters automotive spares and replacement parts.
- I learned a great deal including effective talking to customers through a TalkTalk programme run by the company.
- The management were effective to a certain degree, however didn't inform part time members of staff in – more... an efficient enough manner, of changes within the store. Likewise the management's use of holiday booking and rota's for staff was less than effective.
- The hardest section of this job was fitting difficult products such as car batteries for customers - As I was inadequately trained.
- Most enjoyable part of the job was the people who I worked with. – less

Good Company to work for
Sales Assistant (Former Employee), Livingston/Aberdeen – February 27, 2013
When i was working at Halfords I enjoyed working there, my typical day was to either work on the cash desk or to help customers when they needed it. I leaned how to communicate with customers better and it also got my confidence levels up and also tought me how to work in a team. The management was good, the were helpful if we were ever stuck on something – more... and they were good about giving us time off. The hardest part of the job was if i didn't know what a customer wanted or needed help with i would have to go and figure it out through the computer system or ask other memebers of staff. The most enjoyable part was the staff team and the hours were also really good to work round my university life as well. – less

Halfords is a welcoming company where the management team and co-workers will always help you out with any dilemma's or basic problems. I enjoyed my time at halfords I learnt many skills and by the end of my time there I felt in my element. The most enjoyable part of the job is in my opinion making sales its gives me a great sense of accomplishment. – more... The hardest part is definitely repairs, the trying to find out what's causing the problems is mentally draining. – less

My time at Halfords
Sales Advisor (Former Employee), London – January 31, 2013
Pros: meeting new people everyday
Cons: pay being wrong most months
A typical day at work would be starting a shift at 2 and working on the shop floor doing stock take and helping customers when need be and giving them the best advice they would need about products in store. Work on the shop floor until 5 and from 5-8 work as a cashier serving customers and dealing with the customer service role too. i would be dealing – more... with refunds, sale purchases and exchanges. At the end of a working day i would cash up my till.
From working at Halfords i have learnt how to be a cashier give great customer service how to work the back office and do all internal jobs to help the business run on a day to day basis.
Whilst working at Halfords i worked very closely with the management team as we got on well plus they helped me learn an gain new experiences within my work place. I found that the management was easy to get along with and was a team that you could always go too if you ever needed help or wanted to express that you wanted to learn something new.
My time working at halfords i found it very easy to get along with my co-workers, it was a fun experience to share with them an be able to help each other within the work place. I made many friends with my co-workers and made sure that we all worked as a team to make sure that our work out come was always the best interest for the company.
The hardest part of my job was having to deal with challengling customers on a daily basis, being able to always come out on top and give them the best customer service they could ask for always made it easier.
The most enjoyable part of my job was being given the full trust of being able to do various different jobs around the shop and knowing that i have learnt it all because i had the interest of wanting to get the most out of my job. – less
