I enjoyed my time with Santander
Cashier, Customer Service Advisor and other roles (Former Employee), Bluewater – May 15, 2013
Cons: always busy. difficult to take a break
A typical day with Santander was very busy, our aim being to clear the queue as soon as possible whilst still delivering excellent customer service. I learned to interact well with the public, and enjoyed working as a team with my co-workers and management. The hardest part of the job was the sales we were expected to secure, the most enjoyable part – more... of the job was meeting and dealing with new people on a daily basis, and working with my colleagues with whom I had an excellent relationship. – less

Wouldn't bother
cashier (Former Employee), England – May 7, 2013
Cons: being messed about rubbish wages no prospects and only want 16 year olds
Applied for a job with this firm. Passed telephone banking interview.
Attended full interview and was told unofficially I had got the job.

Pay was minimum wage and hours unsocial. Advised in job interview that the bank get a lot of complaints and this was obvious whilst waiting to be seen for the interview. Despite the fact I had good customer service – more... experience and banking experience, I was turned down despite being told I had got the job.

Later invited to an interview in the same town for Santander but different branch and was messed about. Told I was just what was needed yet was not given the job.

Since this time the branch has had a high turnover of young members of staff.

Total waste of time, customers messed about, always really long queues and management do not know what they are doing. – less

Champion Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee), London – January 3, 2013
Whilst working for Santander, I learned and honed many skills there, including Customer Service, Customer Perception, Problem Solving and many more.

Management were always enthusiastic regarding motivating the team week on week to perform at their best for the best results.

Staff were very friendly and social, yet target focused.
The hardest part – more... of the roles were managing your own time, which included monitoring your own referrals, serving customers, Up-selling, conveying (often updated) product knowledge and special offers. – less

Good place to work, shame they moved out of London
Team Management (Former Employee), Precot Street London – December 6, 2012
Pros: staff mortgage and cheap loans
Cons: higher management not communicating during the outsourcing
The office I worked in had daily deadlines, it was a busy 'factory' type environment work and finish policy.
I worked with people of all ages and I have learnt that not all people can work to the same standard but every individual have their purpose in the team.
My direct management was very communitive and allowed me to run my team with good back up. – more... Higher management were not thought so well of as they rarely walked the floors and some staff did not know who they were.
Meeting all the deadlines and managing the different ages and skill levels of the staff was hard especially at peak times ie July and January.
The best part of the job was the team work and loyalty among the staff. – less

Busy but enjoyable working enviroment
Customer Administrator (Former Employee), London, Head Office – October 25, 2012
Pros: sharsave scheme
Cons: uncertainty of job security for 8 years due to relocation
Having worked for Santander for 23 years I experienced alot of change. When I joined the company my main job was making a decision as to whether of not to pay a cheque or return it which involved data entry. Over time I progressed and was responsible for the organisation of the work to enusre that all the work was completed accurately and within stricttimescales. – more... I had a very good working relationship with my colleagues and with management and I was well thought of. The hardest but most enjoyable part of my job was the overseeing and training of the departments work being transferred to Liverpool. This was at times stressfull but very rewarding when it was a success. – less

Productive
Retention Advisor (Current Employee), Bradford – September 27, 2012
Pros: understanding management
Cons: long shifts
I learnt how to achieve not only my own targets but help increase team targets. I learnt how to work on my own and as part of a team. Calling customers and aiming to retain the customers was the challenging part of the job, as customers sometimes had other insurance quotes which were cheaper, therefore using persuasive yet not over powering the customer – more... sold the features and benifits of the Santander home insurance policy. – less

Customer Service Advisor (Cashier) (Current Employee), Wallasey, Wirral – September 18, 2012
Pros: always a strong competitor compared to other banks interest rates etc - good for new business
Cons: difficult to obtain promotion as company is merging with other large banks
a typical day at work involves achieving the same day to day targets. I enjoy doing this although it can seem repetetive. we have a large team but we all get on well and the managers are always present, visible and helpful. I am competetive with my work colleagues but its all for the good of performing well at work. the most enjoyable part of my job – more... is interacting with the public. it can be challenging but mostly its just really enjoyable – less
