typical job
Barista Maestro (Current Employee), Birmingham – May 14, 2013
A typical day at work is like anyone else, we have our good days and our bad days, everybody gets along really well, some arguments may break out but they don't last long because we all know each other and that's a good thing in such a big team for a shop the size it is. I have learned a lot of management skills through out my time here and I will keep – more... that with me for a long time to come. Management and co-workers will be people I will not forget about and can stay in touch with. – less

Hard working, fast paced work environment
Barista Maestro / Supervisor (Former Employee), Lichfield – May 3, 2013
Pros: friendly
Cons: long hours with only half an hour break.
I was supervisor for the company which meant that I had to manage 5 to 6 members of staff per day. I had to arrange the staff so that it was the most productive for the customers. It was very demanding and hard work as it was such a busy store. I enjoyed the fast paced environment.

An energetic place, to put your multitasking, and communication skills to good use, management are tighter than most, not enough rota notice period,
Barista Team Leader. Key holder (Current Employee), locksbottom – April 29, 2013
Pros: can be a fun place to work, you also get tips, free drinks and 50% discount off all food
Cons: not much advance warning with the rota, you sometimes don't even know what hours you are working for the next day so can make things awkward
As we are a coffee shop we are at our busiest during the morning rush hour, morning coffee breaks and lunchtime with a steady flow through out the rest of the day. During this time I will rotate between being on the till, making the coffee, serving the food and managing the floor, this includes multi - tasking and effective communication between my colleagues – more... t ensure an optimum service and turnover. The hardest part of my job is ensuring that during busy periods the customers don't have to wait long and all brand standards are met as service shouldn't be scrimped on just to drive down a queue. the most enjoyable part of the job is working with my team and interacting with the customers. – less

Very Productive and busy environment
barista (Current Employee), Leicester – April 10, 2013
Pros: discount card
Cons: working the close shift till 8.30pm
A typical day at work includes meeting new and old faces of the customers that come in. Making loads of coffees and cold drinks and serving food.

In this job you need great personality to keep the store feel good customer comments being in the green which means very good.

You have to be able to meet targets given to you by the manager and be able – more... to work in a fast and very busy environment.

I enjoy making the coffees although some are difficult to do (the flat white) – less

Full time
Barista Maestro (Current Employee), Portsmouth – March 27, 2013
Working full time, I had the responsibilties of opening and closing the store as well as cashing up and banking. I also had the opportunity to train new staff on the till and producing the coffee to brand standards. I also trained to be a barista maestro in London which helped to broaden my knowledge of the company and prove my skills. I have a very – more... good relationship with the team, manager and customers. – less

day at work
Barista - team member (Current Employee), Liverpool – March 24, 2013
Every working day is the same. Since morning till evening it is only about serving costumers, making coffees, washing dishes and at the end of the day cleaning the store. Next day it starts again. There is no chance to improve yourself, to create. The only good thing about it is to learnt organize things to do them effectively.

I loved working for Costa at Guildford Spectrum.
Barista (Former Employee), Spectrum Guildford. – March 22, 2013
Pros: free lunch.
Cons: rota system and management refusal to change hours. even with a so called change of hours form
...but the management were total power tripping bullies.

The job was fun and easy to pick up. The staff and supervisors were all fine but managers were all terrible.

great team members, poor management
team member (Former Employee), watford gap – March 18, 2013
Pros: free lunches
Cons: long hours poor pay
a fast moving enviroment which was often busy due to being on the motorway, short staff sometimes, all learning was pretty much you learnt on the spot no training, supervisors were nice, managers were bullys and more concerened about the job didnt care if you had personal problems and needed days off, you always got called last minuite and made to work – more... longer than your shifts no overtime pay i once worked a 14 hour shift baring mind i was below the age of 18 at the time.. most enjoyable part of the day was working alongside such friendly team members, hardest part of the job was being spoken to rudely by customers who did not care how they treated you.. – less

Fun fast paced atmosphere
Store manager (Current Employee), stroud – March 18, 2013
Duties ranged from scrubbing the toilets to controlling budgets. I learnt a lot about business and competitors. Working well with colleagues is a must and can really make work fun. The hardest part of the job is time management. What really makes the job worthwhile is the customers and providing great service, if you ever feel down you can smile and – more... chat to the customers and guaranteed your mood will improve. – less

Friendly but unrewarding
Team Leader (Current Employee), Didcot – March 16, 2013
As a Team Leader at Costa I have without doubt managed to broaden my knowledge of business and management in general. I am always supporting management with stock control and basic administration. I get on with my team very well, we are all friendly and can create fun even from the toughest situations. I get on well with my manager but I sometimes feel – more... under valued and that I am not likely to move forward which is why I would like to move on as soon as possible. As much as my regular customers make me happy, and the rewarding feeling of knowing you've worked hard and made positive steps, I still find that trying to put on a happy face when I know I want to be in a different job a very hard act to keep up. I also find it difficult to be happy when I know many other Team Leaders in other companies who are paid far more than me for the same sort of work, when I know I'm working hard day in, day out. – less

Productive, family like team
barista (Former Employee), portsmouth – February 28, 2013
Pros: long lunch breaks
Cons: long hours with only one break
at Costa Coffee I would collect crockery and clean it, I would organise shop floor and outside, I would also arrange fridges and make drinks at the bar and assist customers. From my experience at Costa Coffee I learnt how to correctly stock food, refreshments and how to make certain drinks and learning to use the proper equipment to do so and how to – more... provide excellent customer service. The management at Costa Coffee were excellent and friendly and made my time there feel worth while. My co-workers at Costa Coffee were very friendly and made me want to pursue working within a team in a company that provides for the public. The hardest part of my job was carrying stacks of cutlery which took its toll on my body, but with a little practice it became alot easier. The most enjoyable part of my job were serving the customers and receiving compliments, which internally made me feel good about myself and boosted my self esteem. – less

Freya – 27 March 2013

long breaks? I only get half an hour no matter how long the shift I'm working is(provided it's over 6 hours.) If I'm working a 6 hour shift-no break at all. Is this the same for you?

Costa coffee
Team member (Former Employee), Heathrow airport terminal 1 – February 27, 2013
Pros: discounts in all costa coffee shops around uk
Cons: offered short term contact
-Working behind the till
-Making sure the shop was as clean as possible
-Displaying products on the shelves appropriately
-Making sure the customers are happy and delivering best standard of customer service
During this three months work placement I learnt to work as a team in the most effecient way aswell as make quick decision by myself to make the – more... coffee shop run as smoothly as possible.
The coffee shop was very well managed with everything put into condiseration to make everyone working in the store happy and feel like they want to be there.
The co-workers were very supporting, they hade good communications skills and always made sure everyone was welcome including customers.
The hardest past of the job was keeping up with the fast pace of the coffee shop, regardless i managed to get used to the surrounding very qucikly and mannaged to met all targets set by the manager.
Thw most enjoyanle part of the job was working together will people to make the shop the best it could be. Not only did we work as hard as possible but we also has time to bond as a team which showed in the shop as the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. – less

Fun and friendly workplace
Baritsa (Former Employee), Coubly Newham – February 18, 2013
Pros: free luches
Cons: had to get there on sunday
I became a qualified barista and what that entailed was answering the telephone, problem solving, stock taking, handlling cash while taking people orders also i need to have good custmore service to try and sell other food and products to the customer and make sure i listened to their orders so i didnt get it wrong. i also had to clean all the shop up – more... when it was closing with help from an other team memeber. My co-worker where very nice and friendly easy to get along with. The hardest part of my job was trying to fit work in with college and aso trying to get to work on sunday was hard. The most enjoyable part was meeting all differnet kinds of people and could have a fun time.i would say the person who was my manger could of been a bit nicer in a way of always wanting to leave ealry than his shift ended. – less
