A good place to work, with friendly people and an extremely rewarding cause
Senior Administrator (Former Employee), Sheldon, Birmingham – May 15, 2013
I was mostly involved in supporting the fundraising teams within the local communities and organising large scale mass participation events. I spent a great deal of time interacting with volunteers, some of advanced years, helping them organise their local events and facilitating the running of the local fundraising groups and branches. This could take – more... the form of creating bespoke marketing materials for events or listening to their problems and being a patient and supportive ear.

I was also responsible for creating online registration pages for local and regional events on the foundation website. I really enjoyed this part of the job and became extremely proficient in using the systems employed by the foundation and finding innovate solutions to problems that arose between separate systems.

Management was often minimal due to the period of change during which I worked for the foundation. This was great for me as I developed a marked ability to work individually and on my own initiative. It also helped me rise to my senior position relatively rapidly within the foundation. It also became the hardest part of the job as the period of constant flux the foundation was in meant I took on huge amounts of responsibility very quickly. This put me under a lot of pressure and had a large affect on my work life balance. – less

Co-worker were approachable and enjoyable to work with, learned more about retail and how a shop runs. Very flexible due to being voluntary. Management was not at its best, felt lost with what i was wanted to do. Slow paced work. Built on my social skills

Happy, Optimistic, Organised, Friendly, Helpful
volunteer (Current Employee), Harlow – May 10, 2013
Pros: breaks, nice chats now and then, sence of accomplishment and preparation for future work
Cons: long hours if its not what your used to, yet they are flexible and greatful for any help
I've had an enjoyable time volunteering at the British heart foundation, i arrive, write my name down, ask what they would like me to do, and get on with it, complete it, and ask whats next unless i can see what needs done then i would go do it without being asked which i got high praise for, the staff are nice and helpful to customers which i find – more... professional. and you get fair half hour break and a cup of tea from the kitchen. the most i enjoy about it all is the sence of achievement from working like a purpous in life and thats what i want from life. – less

Fun environment with a variety of different people
General Assistant (Former Employee), Ayrshire – May 8, 2013
Pros: good working hours, 9-5.
This was mostly genereal shop work that I done on a voluntary basis. Many things like cash handling, stock taking etc etc was work that I had previous experience of so I didn't undertake much training for the position.

My co workers and the store management were a mixture of ages and cultures, all of which I was friends with and happy to work alongside.

The – more... hardest part of the job was that it was often quiet with not a lot to do. I am an active person who likes to be busy so often found this to be pretty hard. The most enjoyable times was when the shop was busy, I like to help people and giving a good customer service to them is a part of the experience that I like to provide. – less

Experince
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Romford,London – April 29, 2013
Pros: store competitions e.g.free lunch
Cons: long hours, no extra pay for addditional hours.
The job involved managing a small team of staff on a daily basis, recognising which tasks were important and the time frame in which they needed to be completed in. A typical day at work started at 8am to ensure the store was ready for the 9am opening time, which included shop cleaning, ensuring merchandising was up to company standard. Working here – more... taught me how to successfully merchandise a store, interact with employees and customers and maximise sales. Co-workers were usually hard working and willing to carry out tasks.
The hardest part of the job included prioritising several tasks, the most enjoyable part of the job included customer interaction. – less
