Thoroughly enjoyed my job and working with so many people from all over the UK
Service Engineer (Former Employee), Glasgow Central + Polmadie/Craigntinny depots – February 23, 2013
Pros: being able to travel anywhere on the west or east coast
Cons: long 12 hour day and night shifts
Met all trains upon arrival at GLC and talked with all staff, repairing and reporting any faults they informed me of,or I found walking through the sets. Travelled up and down west and east coast, repairing, fault finding and monitoring on the move. Learnt more extensive electrical skills as was required of the job. Self managed 95% of the time, rarely – more... had any involvement from my management. Enjoyed working with all staff I encountered, be they Train drivers/managers, cleaners or platform staff, and had good working relationships with all of them, including depot staff when attending on nightshifts to undergo heavy maintenance. Enjoyed all aspects of the work, the hardest part was probably having to deal with drunk/awkward passengers. The most enjoyable part was that every day was different, working with different staff or travelling to somewhere new, and that one day you could be fixing a coffee machine, the next you could be attending a failed train. The benefits that went with the job, such as the roster with 11 days off every 3 weeks was also a huge plus, enabling me lots of time with my young family. Plus being able to ride to work on a push bike has kept me fit for the last 5 years. Just a shame to be made redundant, from a job I was very good at, by management that spent no time at all with me, and didnt take customer (train operators) satisfaction into consideration. – less

A productive work place, with a nice atmosphere.
Admin Assistant (Former Employee), Burton-upon-Trent – January 26, 2013
A typical day at work would be creating purchase orders on a in-house data entry system, known as SAP. It would involve keeping the company's clocking in system up to date.

Mechanic (Former Employee), Derby – June 28, 2012
Pros: good lunches
Cons: normal shifts 6:30 - 3
I enjoyed working at bombardier because it was a real eye opener to see what actually goes on in the world of work. I was treated normally and I just got on with whatever I had to do whilst there.
To work at Bombardier you had to have a positive attitude toward working and I feel I worked really hard whilst there.

Too many chiefs.
Manufacturing Staff (Former Employee), Derby – May 30, 2012
Pros: pay slip.
Cons: management
A place that is over managed and where you are almost looked at as a second class citizen for being 'blue collar' staff. Because there are so many mangers, they have to be seen doing something by their mangers and are constantly in a state of panic. But as always the lads get the job done like every time before.

There is a system called 'Pulse' where – more... you have to sign in and out of a computer every time you start or finish a job, or even go for break. 'Flex' is another system they use, so when there is no work on you get sent home on full pay. But you owe the company those hours back, (up to 148 hours). It's a massively unpopular system that a corrupt union helped bring in.

You are in constant treat of losing your job because they can't win any substantial contracts like Thameslink. There is an inner circle called the 'blue eyed boys' who can't put a foot wrong. Forget ever trying to get into that group, it's only for the selected few who manage to get into that circle.

There's no comradery between the guys on shop floor any more. They seem almost perversely pleased when someone fails at something, or even tries to better himself.

It's a pretty much dog eat dog and mundane place to work. And if robots could replace the workers, I'm sure Bombardier would be the first company to get this implemented. – less

Low in productivity no longer a fun place to work
test technician (Current Employee), plymouth – May 2, 2012
Pros: half day fridays;
Cons: lack of career progression
Company seems to adopt a one rule for one and different rules for others with favourtism amongst staff, particularly in production. There is little in terms of career progressive avenues to climb with certain individuals picked for roles who may not always be suitable for the position, they call it 'a succession process'. I have been with the company – more... for 8 years and worked hard in my role but, have been succeeded by those who I feel are less qualified ans experienced and mature enough as indivuduals. I would not recommend working for this company. – less

Great Place
Assembleur Polyvalent (Former Employee), Québec, QC – May 3, 2013
Pros: great pay, great team.
Cons: valcourt is a small town, far away.
Shift rotation was not really a problem, my days were very steady. There was a slow period, so they laid off a good fraction of the work force, and I was moved into the crating department where I worked nights and evenings. Other than the constant seasonal layoffs, the work is very steady and very demanding. It was fast paced, and steady. Very well – more... balanced team, and understanding management. They respect seniority, and have good rewards and incentives for good ideas and good work. Lot's of opportunity for overtime, and great pay. One of the best jobs I ever had. – less

Co workers are great managemet sucks
Electrical and Mechanical Finisher (Former Employee), Thunder Bay, ON – April 26, 2013
Pros: great co- workers on the floor
Cons: management are morons, discrimanition big time
The company overall does not care about their employees. The management in the Thunder Bay, On location has little to be desired. It is a poorly run company that blames the floor workers for cars not being delivered on time when it a parts supply problem. accounting is not paying the bills so suppliers not delivering the parts. Employees are disgruntled, – more... and management is out of control. Discrimation is big in this company. If you get hurt and loose your seniority you will never be rehired. If you rock the boat what so ever (complain about safty problems) the company will try to get rid of you at any cost. Then they will lie about you if called for a job referance. Would not work there again if it was the last place on earth that would give me a job. The pay is also poor. – less

weak ineffective management. Old boys club if your not in the click forget any opportunity.
Aircraft maintenance (Current Employee), Teterboro – April 22, 2013
Pros: good benefits package.
Cons: no opportunity. inept leadership. financially unstable.
It's apparent that Flexjet is a nonprofit organization of bombardier. Its poor leadership will keep it that way. Parent company Bombardier has conducted annual employee surveys that show the problems clearly, but action is never taken to rectify them in over four years. No ability to communicate effectively. No one is able to lead teams or groups in – more... one clear conscience direction. Little to no opportunity in Flexjet. You will be forced to go somewhere else for advancement. I have seen managers give negative references to other employers looking to hire former employees. that is the negative. The positive is good health care, pay, and 401k. – less
