Great environment to create your own environment
Store Manager (Former Employee), Edinburgh – May 14, 2013
Pros: having input into your store and seeing efforts realised
Cons: challenging marketplace, decreased footfall
You are given a great deal of autonomy around how you go about developing your business, interact with customer, developing your employees and influence decision-making.
Job is very hands-on, leading from the front, taking responsibility for all aspects of store operations and there is a great deal of communication between store manager/district manager.
Seeing – more... how you are able to influence customers spending patterns and getting feedback from them are highs of this job, however in an increasingly challenging marketplace, generating revenue was the hardest aspect of this job. – less

Great atmosphere to work in
Supervisor/Covering manager (Former Employee), Norwich – April 22, 2013
Pros: free rentals on both games and films.
Cons: low hours - meaning single cover for alot of the day
On a typical day at Blockbuster my role would be opening the store in the morning, analysing the weekly sales focus and store P & L's. This would also include preparing the days float, organising the days targets for the team and checking any POS or promotion changes for that day.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working in a small team that – more... connected and worked very well together, making sure that targets were exceeded and talking to customers about products.

The hardest part of the job would be the amount of hours the store was given, leaving us often under staffed and working long shifts on single cover.

I was trained in management before I was given the role of covering manager, leaving me in charge of team and assigning daily tasks. – less

Productive and Fun Work Environment
Customer Sales Representative (Former Employee), Queen Street, Redcar – April 17, 2013
Working in blockbuster always guaranteed a different experience with every shift. With constantly updating stock, and customers always needing and valuing advice it allowed me to tune my customer interaction. Each week I was given a target to reach with pre orders, ensuring future revenue for the store.

challenging and fun enviroment
Store Manager (Former Employee), Manchester – April 2, 2013
Pros: free film rentals
Cons: high lone working work patterns
A typical day would be daily banking, face to face customer service, processing of stock, manage and motivate staff to deliver expected results to KPI's,manage store standardsand and daily stock integrity checks.
During my time i have developed my management skills and understanding of management styles and how to aproch people who i need to manage .
The – more... management on the whole was done in a profesional manner.
The co-workers i worked with have been some of the most dedicated people i have worked with in my carer to date.
The hardest part of the job has only come around recentley due to the company going into adminestration and subsequentley being made redundent because i had been moved from one store that had been marked to close to one that remained open only to be told that my contract was still with the closure store and i would be terminated on the same day the closure store closed.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the interaction with the customers,co-workers and the personal development i have had in regards to managing people. – less

Excellent manager and brilliant team of colleagues
Customer Sales Representative (Former Employee), Rawtenstall – March 20, 2013
Pros: my colleagues, free dvd rentals
Cons: working alone for long periods of time
A typical day would involve; opening the store, cancelling the alarm system and setting up the computer systems. Followed by counting the tills and making sure the store is ready for customers. We had various jobs throughout the day, such as; receiving and processing deliveries, keeping on top of DVD returns by checking and then filing the discs, then – more... displaying the boxes and making sure the store is presentable and clean. I would also deal with all customer complaints, as I would often be in the store unsupervised until the next person started their shift, which could be four or five hours. This was an enjoyable part of the job as I had a sense of ownership and although my job title was customer sales representative, I daily completed assistant manager duties. This was sometimes hard when dealing with difficult or aggressive customer's, but I definitely got lots of experience and learnt how to deal with all sorts of customer complaints. We also had to have good communication skills over the telephone as we would ring customer's daily to remind them about late returns, and also let them know about in store offers. This was a big part of the selling skills that were expected of us, we always had ambitious targets to achieve. I loved being part of such a competitive team as we all wanted to be customer sales representative of the week (which I often achieved) by beating the weekly targets. We always enjoyed healthy camaraderie overseen by our fantastic manager who was firm but always fair and understanding. – less

Standard retail job
Customer sales representative (Current Employee), Bedfordshire – March 15, 2013
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: unsociable working hours, minimum wage, little job prospects
Working for blockbusters used to be the most enjoyable retail job I ever had, but as the years have progressed the company has struggled to compete with online competition forcing it into administration. This has left staff moral is at an all time low

my previous employment
customer sales representative (Former Employee), reading, berkshire – February 11, 2013
Pros: free rentals
Cons: rota not far enough in advance
A typical day with my previous employer, would have involved stocking shelves, tidying fascias, updating prices and POS, cleaning, registering new customers, dealing with faulty products and working as part of a small team.

The team at the store has always been relatively small, meaning that good communication and positive relationships were essential, – more... I have made many good friends from former colleagues.

I have learned a great deal with in my previous employment, from data entry tasks, to what works when dealing with difficult customers, the skills I have learned make me ideal for role within a similar sector, but can also be adapted to many others.

I would have to say that I most enjoyed customer interaction, I have always enjoyed talking to customers about products and promotions and more specifically what deal would best suit them. – less

Customer interaction brightened up the day.
Store manager (Current Employee), Johnstone – February 3, 2013
Pros: free rentals, staff discount
Cons: staffing issues, training hours
Store set up each day to high levels of quality, daily targets in place to be met by team. Customer interaction at all times.
Skills learned were team building, leadership and communication.
Team of 4 hard working individuals that can come together to perform to a high standard of service.
Hardest part of the job was consistantly keeping on top of staff – more... performance with very little hours to achieve.
The most enjoyable part was building up a rapore with the customers. – less

Great Environment. So Much Fun!!
Customer Sales Representative (Current Employee), Lowestoft – February 2, 2013
Pros: being able to pop out for a cigarette when i want. lots of overtime, flexible around your life
Cons: no incentive to hit targets! no bonuses etc.
I love working for Blockbuster, they are a fantastic company to work for. We all have a united front at work and Management never undermine something you have said. Eg, if I am talking to a customer and don't give them a discount on their late fees because they bring things back late all the time and it is a substantial amount, they support you in every – more... way. I have never got into a bad situation with either staff or customers as there are precautions we take to prevent this. All around fantastic company!! – less

Blockbuster is fun, ever changing work place
Store Manager (Current Employee), Portsmouth – January 25, 2013
Pros: 10 free rents a week
Cons: business not moved with the times
Blockbuster has been a fun, customer friendly enviorment to work in, and has afforded me a number of oppotunities to develope my skill set.
The day to day running of the store is determined by a set number of business requirment as well as dealing with a number of curve balls that can occur.
I have a team of 8 staff, including an Assistant Manager, – more... and we all work on a rota basis as the store is open from 9.00am to 10.00pm, seven days a week.
The most enjoyable part of the day in interacting with the customers, recommending either movies or games and telling them about the great offers we have in store, which will save them money. – less

typical day
Store Manager (Current Employee), Peterborough – January 23, 2013
A typical day for me would be to get in about an hour before we are due to open, get the figures written up, set the new targets for the coming day, get the shop ready to open, my day would normally be serving customers, dealing with issues, sorting out deliveries, daily inventories, dealing with staff issues, keeping within company guidlines, processing – more... company instructions, re-merchandise the store to the needs of the business.
The hardest part of the job is getting everything done within a reasonable time, but not forgetting customer service at all times. – less

The management at blockbuster was good and my manager always kept me busy giving me things to do. My co-workers were friendly and they helped me – more... with any tasks i couldn't overcome.
