Fast paced, driven, "you can be anyone" megahouse
VP - Research Officer (Former Employee), London, ENG – June 6, 2013
A typical mega business where things are done efficiently with the ultimate commercial purposes.

Teams interact and help each other. Individuals can develop and grow in the business in any shape or form. You can achieve your dreams if you are good enough and work hard enough.

Long hours in general is expected though.

Backoffice in Transition
Employee (Current Employee), New York, NY – May 28, 2013
Pros: incredible firm leaders and opportunities.
Cons: inadequate change mangers with poor systems.
There are many challenges with the back office. The firm is amazing but back office is still in transition from a small firm to the global power house it has become. The issues lie with inadequate managers, lack of systems and process. Most important challenge is the resistance to change. Back office management is very reluctant to change and push back – more... on accountability. Front office is amazing. The caliber of the staff in the front office is amazing. The firm itself is amazing. Back office is in transition and will provide new staff challenges that may lead to short retention. – less

former IT employee
VP IT (Current Employee), Delaware – April 4, 2013
Pros: brand name on your resume
Cons: no career path, no advanacment opportunities...
Big decisions made by few, made on cost versus technical merit and made after they are needed. Pace out performance process...creativity is squashed...do your tickets, lots of tickets in a timely expedited matter.

Cheap on technology...but you get free coffee all day/night long.

Now a Retail Fund Company
Vice President (Current Employee), New York, NY – March 24, 2013
Formerly a sober, fiduciary focused on institutional asset management, now a retail fund company focused on gathering assets and retail flows.

Continual internal reorgs and questionable management.

Financial services industry leader placing an emphasis on continuous innovation and collaboration.
PLATFORM DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE (Current Employee), Princeton, NJ – March 18, 2013
I am part of the team responsible for supporting and growing BlackRock's $55+ billion dollar separately managed account business. A typical day at work involves a range of activities - from discussing feasibility of new product ideas with senior management to negotiating contracts with institutional gatekeepers. I also coordinate product/platform training – more... for our internal sales team and new hires, collaborate with Marketing on sales initiatives, and work cross-functionally to complete special projects and ad hoc requests as needed.

My team is responsible for the outcome of SMA business initiatives without having control of the resources required to complete them - this is the most challenging aspect of the job. In my role, the ability to influence colleagues in other areas of the firm has been critical to success. I've learned to build consensus with a diverse base of internal stakeholders by using effective communication and relationship-building skills.

The people I work with are driven, highly intelligent, and pretty down-to-earth. Management demands excellence and holds employees to high standards. The scope of my role is so broad, and expertise so deep, that it is rewarding to reflect on how much I've leaned during my tenure here. The most enjoyable part of my job is passing on my experience and guidance to junior members of the team. – less
