Asda has a good fun environment to work in but can be let down by a lack of staff and communication.
Shopfloor Colleague (Current Employee), Coventry – May 23, 2013
Pros: discount on shopping and subsidised meals
Cons: same tasks everyday
There is always something new that faces you in any one day at Asda. Working with and around the general public means you deal with many different people in many different situations.

A pleasant place to work, people were very helpful and friendly and settled in well.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee), Wolstanton – May 20, 2013
Pros: having lunch and breaks that suit me best.
Cons: expected to complete tasks too quickly when there is a short deadline.
Each day when I went to work I was greeted by fellow colleagues, I had to find the manager and she told me what my duties for the day were. It was clearly told and I was able to do the job comfortably. The manager was quite organised until the busy period of Christmas and boxing day.

The hardest part was when I had important duties to fulfil I was – more... approached by many customers and it was quite difficult to attend to everyone's needs but I put customers as number one priority and dealt with customers enquiries first. Even though it was a bit hectic but I managed quite well and customers were satisfied.

The most enjoyable part of this job was being able to interact with customers and attending their needs and requirements and when they felt satisfied it made me feel satisfied that I did a good job with their enquiries.

I learnt a lot about customer service, how to perform a good customer service and why it is important. Also it helped grow my confidence in dealing with different people and different tasks. I learnt how the department is ran, what are the key tasks to ensure it runs smoothly and the process of stocking and selling products. – less

Productive workplace
Grocery Colleague (Current Employee), Arbroath – May 19, 2013
Pros: the work isn't too difficult, its quite enjoyable, easy to get shift swaps.
Cons: long hours, very rarely get 1 day off a week.
Asda is really good company to work for, I have learnt a lot working there the past year. I am really good with talking to customers and dealing with complaints and queries now. The management is probably just like anywhere else, it has its pros and cons. The hardest part of my job would definitely be the long hours every day. At Asda you don't really – more... have set hours and that can sometimes be quite difficult. The parts about my job that i do enjoy would be, seeing the customers daily and having conversations with them about their day, and also the co-workers because we all get along so well and help each other out, that definitely keeps you going. – less

My previous role has given me a good work ethic it is a good place to build relationships but not much opportunity to develop any further in this role
Operations/Clerical Team Leader (Former Employee), Asda Distribution Centre CDC4 Falkirk – May 16, 2013
Pros: benefits, security, building good relationships.
Cons: constant nightshift, getting days off, self development.
My most recent role as a team leader within the clerical/operations department required sound PC skills, an in depth knowledge of the depot computer system (GDS), and detailed knowledge of all stock control, warehouse and office procedures. Use a practical, pro-active and common sense approach to problem solving, supervise clerks, give and receive detailed – more... handovers, give advice to warehouse team members on system and hardware issues when necessary, facilitating the smooth running of a productive shift between the warehouse and stock control functions. Be able to multi task and prioritise well in a busy office environment, a busy warehouse environment and in different temperature zones has been an essential part of my working life thus far. Being able to carry out physical warehouse duties using the appropriate machinery or hardware has also always been a basic requirement. I have a sound knowledge of office practices have used a variety of IT based tools to tackle and report on system/hardware issues and to create statistical and numerical reports on a daily basis. These include excel, word, outlook and other databases. The most enjoyable part for myself was the problem solving and using my own knowledge and experience to investigate and resolve all manner of issues, the hardest part in a busy office is paying attention to the detail whilst multi tasking and monitoring the bigger picture at the same time. – less

Working on a till takes skill to deal with the general public, This involves adhering to all types of people from elderly, disabled to married couples young people etc. You have to be polite and adhere to customer service policy. Taking forms of payment accurately giving change , dealing with vouchers, coupons etc in the correct manner and assisting – more... with any quiries, It is very people based so you have to work well with people and have a good personality . – less

home delivery driver (Former Employee), BASILDON ESSEX – May 10, 2013
Pros: discounts on shopping
Cons: everybody was on the same salary from checkouts to delivery drivers which i thought was not right.
hard working days picking loading and delivering online shopping to customers which gave me good customers skills when delivering to customers around the Essex area.the management was very supportive and helpful through your working day,the hardest part of the job was getting customers shopping on time because of the little timescale you had to deliver – more... to customers.the most enjoyable part of the job was meeting new people everyday and saving customers money. – less

Productive and friendly working environment.
Shop Floor Assistant (Current Employee), Blackwood – May 2, 2013
Pros: friendly people, work satisfaction
Cons: late night weekend hours
During my time at ASDA as a shop floor assistant I have learnt several things, firstly the job role and staff has aided my confidence massively and allowing myself to feel confident when working with a highly demanding working environment, I have not only learnt both team working skills and team leadership skills, but how to share job roles between – more... colleagues to achieve the most effective results.

A general day in work would involve several different jobs including top stock clearing (including investigating overs), gap filling, moving large pallet goods, general tidying and cleaning, ensuring delivery is stored correctly, check out operator and point-of-sale work.

Although I have not experienced a team leader role, a normal day would enable me to share out the job roles to the remaining colleagues when there was no management present.

The most enjoyable part of the job of the job was working with some amazing people of all ages and experiencing total synergy when all colleagues are working at full volume. The hardest part of the job was how highly selective it was when it come to advancement. – less
