Full job description
In your two years as an Apprentice Dairy Technologist, you will become an expert in all things dairy and food manufacturing. You will learn what it takes to deliver high quality, tasty products to some of the nation’s favourite retailers, in a fast moving industry.
At the end of the two years, you will graduate with a level 5 Foundation Degree in Dairy Technology at Reaseheath College in partnership with The University of Chester, via a mix of practical and classroom based learning. You will also gain a Level 3 award in Health & Safety, Food Safety, and HACCP along with a breadth of experience across all core elements of food manufacturing.
The best bit? You will earn as you learn! Your salary will increase year on year as you progress and develop.
So what will you learn about in your time as an Apprentice Dairy Technologist?
Good manufacturing is a marriage of technology, efficiency, quality, innovation, safety, and commerciality. At our sites we balance all of these factors to ensure that our farmer- owners are rewarded for the work they do. So that the nation get Cravendale milk in their tea each morning, Skyr yoghurt in their breakfast bowl, and Anchor butter on their toast.
As an Apprentice Dairy Technologist, you will learn how to balance these priorities in different environments. You will learn how to work fast in Production, how to enhance quality in the Lab, how to optimise technology in Process, how to innovate in Engineering, and how to keep your colleagues safe in Health & Safety. You will gain a commercial mindset, and an understanding of how important our customer relationships are to us. You will support our continual growth, through everything that you do.
At the end of your apprenticeship, it will be up to you to choose which rotation you enjoyed the most, and to decide which team you see a future in. Arla Foods is your oyster.
What you’ll need to be a successful Dairy Technologist Apprentice
Achieved a minimum of 5 GCSE Grade C’s/4 or above (or equivalent)
Grades must be A*-C/9-4 for Maths and A*-C/9-4 for English, plus a Science subject which would be desired and two other subjects
Please note, you will need to be 18+ to apply for this role. This is due to the hands-on nature of the role.
A love of learning. You will learn on the job and in the classroom
As part of your application process we require evidence of GCSE grades or predicted grades
Things we’d love to tell you about our Aylesbury Dairy
Built in 2010, covering 76 acres, Aylesbury is a 100% carbon neutral dairy and the very first of its kind in the world! It plays a big part in helping Arla to #feedthenation, producing a staggering 1 billion litres of milk per year.
Things we’d love to tell you about Arla
We are a farmer- owned cooperative. That means we are committed to partnering with farmers so they are guaranteed a fair price for their milk.
We experimented with poo powered trucks (google it- you won’t regret it), and built the world’s first ever 100% carbon neutral dairy. All as part of our ongoing commitment to combatting climate change.
We are the producer of Lurpak, one of the world’s most iconic butter brands.
We are a Danish business, operating across the UK, Europe, Asia, The Middle East, North America, South America and other regions across the globe.
Want to apply?
We are so excited to welcome you to the Arla family.
Please apply via this advert or our careers page. The closing date is Friday 5th April 2024
If you have a question about the role, then please contact Rachel McDaid at Ramci@arlafoods.com
Here’s the recruitment process that you will go through as an applicant
Our first shortlist will be based on your CV, and your motivation for applying for the role. You should get your personality across in your CV so that we understand who you are and what you are about. Please refer above to our entry requirements and we would ask any applicants to clearly detail their qualifications.
If shortlisted, you will be invited to take part in an online HireVue video interview.
If successful at this stage, you will then be invited to attend a face to face assessment centre at Reaseheath College in May 2024 where you will take part in group activities and a formal face to face interview.
If you are selected following this stage you will then be invited to your preferred locations for a final interview and discussion with members of our site operations team.
We have a purpose for Good
At Arla, we strive to unlock the highest potential in each other while working together to create a sustainable future of dairy. We call it Stronger People Stronger Planet and it is deeply anchored in our organisation and founded on our commitment to respecting human rights, increasing access to healthy dairy nutrition, inspiring good food habits, and improving the environment for future generations. In order to succeed we need to hire people with a sustainable mindset. Could this be you?
